Frozen Salmon Delivery: Storage and Defrosting Guide
Updated 2026-10-08
Frozen salmon needs careful handling after it reaches your home. Check the parcel, move it to the freezer promptly and choose a safe defrosting method when you are ready to cook. Product packaging and delivery instructions always take priority.
Receive the order with freezer space ready
Arrange for someone to receive the order and make room in the freezer beforehand. Check that the package is intact and the product remains appropriately frozen or chilled for its stated storage condition.
If a package is leaking, damaged, clearly thawed or outside its indicated storage condition, contact the seller rather than tasting the food to assess it.
Store at the right temperature
Frozen food should be kept at the temperature specified on its packaging. Keep seafood sealed, avoid cross-contact with ready-to-eat foods and use a first-in, first-out routine where possible.
Freezer burn can affect texture and quality. It does not by itself answer every food-safety question, so consider package integrity, temperature history and label directions together.
Choose a safe way to defrost
Plan ahead and thaw sealed salmon in the refrigerator. When time is short, current food-safety guidance also describes controlled running-water or microwave methods followed by prompt cooking.
Do not defrost fish for a long time at room temperature or in hot water. Clean hands, boards, knives and surfaces after handling raw fish, and keep raw juices away from ready-to-eat food.
